This past Thursday, CSW welcomed Mason Dunn, executive director of the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition (MTPC), to give a talk about what the MTPC has done for trans rights, what it is currently working on, and what it hopes to achieve in the future.

Following the election of seven transgender individuals to local and state government offices around the country this fall, Julia Applebaum ’19 came up with the idea to invite a speaker to campus to provide context around the significance of these victories. She connected with Dino Rowan in CSW’s Marketing and Communications Office, a personal acquaintance of Mason’s, who extended the invite.

In his presentation to the school, Mason talked about the history of trans rights, taking the CSW community back in time to when the issue of trans rights first entered the conversation. He then transitioned to exploring today’s climate, detailing what it is like to be a member of the transgender community in Massachusetts. The conversation continued over lunch in the Cheek, where students and faculty alike were able to ask additional questions and dive deeper into some of the topics Mason had addressed in his speech.

Thank you, Mason, for visiting CSW and teaching us more about MTPC and all of the work that it has done for the transgender community!
