Boys' JV gets second win of the season over CCA

The CSW boys’ JV team got off to a slow start against the very disciplined Covenant Christian Academy team Wednesday afternoon in their third a home game of the season. After Coach AJ “Beast” Stephens made some quick adjustments, CSW got back on track building a quick 8-point lead. CCA used a quick time-out to regroup defensively and make a push of their own; small mistakes made by CSW put CCA back in the game. CSW finished the first half with a 2-point lead 18 – 16 behind a strong start from sophomore Xavier Guzman. In the second half CCA’s starting point guard gave CSW a lot of trouble as he was still able to score effortlessly on CSW’s box and one. Somehow CSW was able to hold on to their 2-point lead late in the game. CCA tried their hardest to make a late game push, but missed free-throws hurt them tremendously. Freshman point guard Alex Ren made a big-time lay-up putting CSW up 4-points with 1:00 minute left in the game.  CCA answered right back with a lay-up of their own, making the score 34-32.  CSW was able to inbound the ball to Alex, who drew a foul putting him on the line to two free throws which he made to seal the win for CSW 36-32.  Sophomore Xavier Guzman and freshman Alex Ren led the way for CSW, Guzman had 12 points and 7 rebounds and Ren contributed 11 points.
