The internationally acclaimed folk band Windborne — featuring CSW alum Jeremy Carter-Gordon ’07 — visited campus this week to perform in assembly and lead a workshop with The Gryphtones (CSW’s acappella group) during lunch.

Jeremy, who primarily sings bass for the group, joined Windborne in 2013. He has a master’s in dance anthropology and was awarded a Watson Fellowship to travel across Europe and collect sword dance traditions.

Comprised of four talented singers, Windborne has performed throughout New England and around the world. Though deeply rooted in traditional American folk song and dance, their repertoire spans the continents, with material from Corsica, the Republic of Georgia, Bulgaria, Quebec, and Basque country. They have taught workshops in schools, community centers, singing camps, and universities, and were one of ten groups selected by American Music Abroad and the U.S. Department of State to tour as cultural ambassadors through music.

The group is particularly well-known for close harmony singing, with voices as energetic and powerful as they are pure and moving. Their musical gifts were on full display when they performed for the whole school this week, an experience our community will not soon forget!
