The morning began with a performance by the all-female band Pink Riot On Mondays (PROM). Led by pianist Hannah Liebscher '18, the band also features Hyacinth Tauriac '19, Sophia Clouse ‘19, Emi Ibarra Sanchez ’19, Sascha Deng ’19, andRivers School student Alexa Francesconi. They performed “Quiet” by Milck, “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac, and “Outro,” a song written by Sascha Deng.

After watching a video created by Alyssa Vivek Kamath '19 explaining key terms like womanism and kyriarchy that would come up during workshops, Diversity Committee head Lizzie Clackson ‘18 explained briefly the waves of women’s rights movements throughout history. Students, faculty, and staff spent a portion of the morning and the afternoon in workshops led by students and faculty members. They discussed issues like colorism and beauty standards, women filmmakers, feminism within Islam, and maternal health.

This year’s keynote speaker was Chrystal Koech, who recently produced, directed, and edited a short documentary about the domestic workers rights movement. Chrystal graduated from Tufts University in 2015 with a BA in American Studies, with coursework in education, film, and gender studies. She got her start in multimedia and film through Tufts University’s Program for Narrative and Documentary Practice. In 2015, she was awarded MASS National Organization for Women's Feminism in Action grant.

Her documentary, MATAHARI — JUSTICE, follows emerging leaders of the domestic workers rights movements as they work to implement the Massachusetts Domestic Workers Bill of Rights and end gender- based violence and labor exploitation. Her goal is to highlight the powerful organizing and transformative work these leaders are pioneering.

Congratulations to all of our organizers and participants on an enlightening day of programming!
