CSW Boys' Tennis Wins Big Over Newman School

On Wednesday, April 15th, the CSW Boys' Varsity Tennis team acted as the tennis equivalent of the IRS, collecting on various errors, oversights, and lack of preparation of their opponents.

The CSW boys took on Newman School's tennis squad, and domiated their matches in shockingly quick fashion, churning out another intensely quiet, yet convincing 5-0 victory. This is the Gryphons' second consecutive victory in which their adversaries did not notch a single victory in any match.

In Number One Singles action, Sam Hoenig '15 had a nearly flawless, error free match, dominating his Newman adversary. Sam's serve had knife-like precision throughout the match. His first serve, and at times his second serve, was simply spectacular. Sam notched several aces, and some of these aces screamed by his opponent so quickly it was rather challenging to determine if the serves were landing in- a blindingly brilliant performance all around from the senior Captain. Sam defeated his Newman opponent by a tally of 8-0.

Freshman Leaf Fagerberg '18 continued to exert his willpower at Number Two Singles, launching a convincing 8-2 victory. Leaf faced a rather determined opponent, but persevered through rather demanding points throughout the match. Leaf's net play continues to improve as the season progresses.

Sophomore phenom Sam Reuter '17, often referred to as the Miloslav Mecir of CSW Tennis, played at the Number Three Singles position, and operated more like a Novak Djokovic of CSW in his thrilling 8-0 thrashing of Newman. Sam launched ten aces in a compelling performance. With shockingly accurate cross court backhands and rather alluring slice forehands, Reuter was simply an impenetrable wall out on the tennis court on these Ides of April.

In the Number One Doubles match, junior Nolan DeMott '16 and sophomore Josh Reuter '17 faced a bevy of piercing volleys from their opponents, but managed to ride to an 8-3 trumping of an upstart Newman team. DeMott and Reuter managed net play rather adroitly, and continued to hone their serving. This is a squad that is going to be exceedingly difficult to defeat as the 2015 campaign gets even more heated.

In the Number Two Doubles match, one spectator left the court for a brief cell phone dialogue, and by the time said spectator returned, the squad of ferocious freshman Harry Klein '18 and jubilant junior Garrett Stokes '16 were completed in their nearly peerless 8-0 romp. Both Klein and Stokes exhibited fine footwork, attention to groundstrokes, and a fine ability to communicate on all ends of the court.

The intrepid CSW Boys' Tennis team continues the 2015 cycle on Friday against Boston University Academy. Our always thrilling to spectate Boys' team will be hosting BU Academy at Gann Academy in Waltham on Friday afternoon.
