CSW Boys' Varsity Tennis Tops Landmark 4-0

On a remarkably sunny, violently windy afternoon, the CSW Boys' Tennis team valiantly stared down the elements with their usual tennis savvy and acumen, besting the visiting Landmark Tennis squad by a tally of 4-0.

The CSW Boys were lead by heady singles play and upperclassman leadership from Sam Hoenig '15 and Nolan DeMott '16, and by lightning fast footwork from doubles teams Sam Rueter '17 and Josh Rueter '17, as well as the Zen Master, Garrett Stokes '16, and Harry Klein '18.

The CSW Boys' Varsity Tennis team approaches the last half of their season sporting an impressive 8-0 record.

In Number One Singles, Sam Hoenig, undeterred by deficits of 0-2, and 1-3, rallied to win seven (yes, 7!) consecutive gains, solidifying his own 8-0 record, defeating a boisterous opponent, 8-3. Once content with a strategy of attrition, standing far behind the baseline and grinding down opponents with ground strokes, Hoenig altered his style of play after the fourth game, and moved forward and attacked continuously. This modification reaped various dividends for the impassioned senior.

In Number Two Singles, the erudite and electrifying Nolan DeMott suffered no fools in his 8-0 mastery of Landmark. DeMott played as though he had been playing singles for ages, as opposed to all the doubles play that he has clocked in this tennis campaign of 2015. DeMott was shockingly accurate with his drop shots and volleys, and he also ran around his backhand, delivering toxic doses of topspin as well as slice from the forehand side.

In Number One Doubles action, Josh and Sam Rueter were dynamic and resilient in their 8-5 triumph. Both players used furious spin-cycle groundstrokes throughout the halcyon afternoon. The Rueter's persistence and consistency with their serving were indispensable tools used to solidify their positive outcome.

In Number Two Doubles action, Harry Klein and Garrett Stokes frustrated their opponents from the beginning to the conclusion of their 8-0 shutout victory. The youthful and energetic duo made significant strides with accurate and more powerful serving, as well as some blistering winners.

The CSW Boys' team play their most important match of the season on Monday, against Gann Academy, in what is predicted to be an epic contest. This match will be played at the Brook Street apartment tennis courts, in enchanting Weston, Monday, May 11th at 4 p.m.
