CSW Girls' Varsity Tennis Wins in Tiebreaker!

On Wednesday, 5/13/15, the CSW Girls' Varsity Tennis team traveled to the tennis courts of Pine Manor College for their rematch against Brimmer & May.

After losing their match earlier in the season by a score of 1-4, the Gryphons were excited and more than ready to take on the B & M Gators. The team had been working very hard on their volleying and striving to play aggressive tennis. It showed throughout the match.

CSW took a quick lead in the match, with #1 singles player Maya Barnes '17 coming back from an early 1-2 deficit and winning 7 straight games to take the set 8-2.

In the #2 singles match, Sara Bakachuk '15 jumped out to 3-0 lead and never looked back, eventually winning the set by a score of 8-3. CSW was not so lucky in the #3 singles match. Zhuoran Yu '15 fought gamely, overcoming a slow start (down 1-4), and turned the match into a nail biter before losing by a score of 6-8.

Brimmer & May evened the match in #1 doubles as CSW's Leila Burnham '15 and Michaela Kahn '16 lost by a score of 4-8. This meant the overall match winner would be determined by the results of the #2 doubles match, and what a match it was.

This matchup seesawed back and forth with too many deuce points to count. Both teams tried to take the momentum but neither would yield, leading to a 7-7 tie, with the match decided by a 7 point tie-breaker. The match continued to go back and forth in the tie-breaker, with teammates and parents cheering from the stands as each team took the momentary lead. CSW's determined #2 doubles team of Sarah Buta '17 and Julia Keating '17 would not be denied and came out on top, winning the tie-breaker by a score of 15-13!

In exhibition play, Claire Bunn '16 and Emma Rybeck '16 lost by a score of 4-8, but continue to show steady improvement in their game.
