Boys' Varsity Tennis Wraps Up Undefeated Season

The CSW Boys' Varsity Tennis team consummated its' undefeated season on Wednesday with a resounding 5-0 victory over conference opponent Boston University Academy.

The match was never in doubt, as CSW used its' fierce speed, overpowering ground strokes, and punishing volleys to conclude the 2015 campaign with an unblemished 13-0 mark.

In Number One Singles, Sam Hoenig '15, (recently minted the 2015 Massachusetts Bay Interscholastic League Outstanding Player of the Year) played in his last match for CSW. Sam yet again exhibited how sorely he will be missed in the future, making astonishing winners appear to be rather banal. Sam dominated from start to finish, pushing back a rather intrepid ninth grader from BU Academy, securing an 8-1 result. Sam's opponent was intent on forcing Sam back to the baseline, and after losing an early game, the CSW Captain and MBIL Player of the Year recovered very quickly, quelling any fight from BU Academy.

While it will be sad to see Mr. Hoenig depart the CSW tennis team to become a Colby College White Mule, we are grateful that Sam dedicated four unparalleled seasons to CSW tennis.

In the Number Two Singles match, freshman Leaf Fagerberg '18 withstood a vigorous defense of home territory from his BUA opponent, notching an 8-3 victory. Despite admirable efforts from BUA, Leaf subdued his adversary with a vigorous serve and volley offensive.

In Number Three singles action, sophomore Sam Rueter '17 mesmerized spectators with an 8-3 pummeling of a very worthy opponent from BUA. Sam successfully defended his selection to the MBIL All Star squad with a laudatory series of backhand volleys and punishing forehands from the baseline.

In the Number One Doubles contest, juniors Nolan DeMott '16 and the venerable Garrett Stokes '16 joined forces in a riveting 8-4 outlasting of BUA. Both Juniors were stellar at net play, and made their opponents rue their decisions to leave balls and volleys short. This match was one of the more entertaining ones of the day, featuring unexpected overhead smashes and precise volleys from CSW.

In another spellbinding match, Number Two Doubles outfit of Harry Klein '18 and Eric Qian '17 persevered in their 8-6 successful contest against BUA. Team Klein/Qian are to be commended for their patience at the net, and continued improvement in their serving.
