CSW Girls' Varsity Tennis Wins Final Match of Season!

On Tuesday, 5/26/15, the CSW Girls' Varsity Tennis team traveled to the Brook Apt. tennis courts for their final match of the season against the Maimonides School.

The Gryphons were excited to play as they were determined to bounce back from their loss at Gann Academy last week.

In the #1 singles match, Maya Barnes '17 start a bit slowly but quickly realized she needed to play more aggressively and ended up winning her match by a score of 8-3.

Sara Bakalchuk '15 demonstrated a solid serve and consistent groundstrokes and defeated her opponent by a score of 8-1.

In the #3 singles match, it was great to have Zhuoran Yu '15 back from the CSW Marine Bio trip. Zhuoran took a 4-1 early lead with some well placed forehands. The senior won the match convincingly by a score of 8-2.

In #1 doubles CSW's Leila Burnham '15 and Alexandra Kahn '16 had many extended rallies with their opponents but their improved net play proved to be the difference as they won the match by a score of 8-4.

Unfortunately the Maimonides team did not have enough players for an official #2 doubles match. In an exhibition match, Michaela Kahn '16 and Emma Rybeck '16 played a spirited but friendly game against two of Maimonides singles players.

This was the last match of the season for our Girls' Varsity Tennis team.

Best wishes to seniors Sara Bakalchuk, Lelia Burnham and Zhuoran Yu!
