Dexter Southfield Edged A Spirited CSW

Brian Tran
CSW Individual Matches Showed A Brave CSW against Dexter Southfield.

The match took place at Dexter Southfield indoor courts in Newton. Missing in the lineup was Louis.
Since it's a friendly match we set up to have everyone play, 2 doubles and 5 singles.

Doubles #1 Senior Harvey and Sophomore Oliver played together the first time this season against a team that seemed to play well together with deep understanding of each other in communication and court coverage. Their lack of understanding and communication hindered their play against a better team. Harvey and Oliver couldn't overcome their experience losing 1-8. They've played together before last year so it's been a while. Communication was key and it was missing today.

GLOBAL SCORE: 0-1

Doubles #2 Sophomore Sebastian and Freshman Ryan lost to also an experienced team. Played together for the first time as well. 1-8. They need more time to play together to build the bond and understanding.

GLOBAL SCORE:  0-2

Singles #2, Sophomore Miles played his best tennis this season with patience and tactical sense to overcome his opponent. While being a pusher (player who returns every ball but never attacks) is not his forte but with an equally level as him, Miles had to work build up the point by moving him around before pressing him to cause an error. He finished the match 6-4 6-1. Excellent mental strength and tactical strategy.

GLOBAL SCORE: 1-2

Singles #3. Sophomore Julien played well using his fast first serves to get free points and forcing the opponents to go off the courts to finish the point easily. The opponent had good court coverage and the ability to return many balls that helped him stay with Julien. The first set ended in a tiebreak which Julien lost 5-7. Julien managed to win the close second set, sending both to a 3rd set tiebreak. The 10 tiebreak could have gone either way, but unluckily, Julien lost 8-10. Julien has built his game around his serves only minor details will get him to the next level.

GLOBAL SCORE: 1-3

Singles #4 Junior Tristian played possibly his tennis of his life, leaving it all out on the court today. Having never played 3 full sets before. He lost 2-6 to an opponent returned many balls from Tristan's fast ground strokes, as well as Tristan's serves were not effective. On the second, Tristan changed tactics and concentrate on his opponent's backhand which proved to be his weakness, closing out 6-3 on the second set. Tristan kept the momentum on his side and stayed calm in the 3rd set, 10-point tiebreak Tristan edged his opponent 10-7. Tristan has been working hard since last and this year by correcting past habits and learning new ones and it's starting to bear fruit.

GLOBAL SCORE: 2-3

Singles #5 Freshman Ryan played against a technically skilled player with blistering serve (when it goes in) and forehand. Ryan did the best keeping his cool and tried to find solutions by pushing him back with lobs but it wasn't enough. He lost 2-8. This match serves as a valuable too

GLOBAL SCORE:  2-4

#1 Singles. Captain and Junior Jared played an excellent match using his both defensive and offensive at different moments in the longest match of the day. Jared took the opponent by surprise by mixing up his shots, winning 6-1. The opponent changed his tactics to more defensive with his ability to sustain long rallies and return every ball to win 1-6 on the second set. On the 10 Tiebreak 3rd, he recomposed, became patient for an clear opportunity to attack to end the point. He won the TB by 10-7.  Jared kept a cool head and showed excellent mental strength with multiple weapons overcome the opponent.

GLOBAL SCORE: 3-4

The team as a whole played very well. Some individuals truly shined today with new skills and self belief. Despite the loss, the team as a whole, improved tremendously compared to the previous year. Keep up the great work!
