Seven-at-Eleven, an original play by Makena Tingle ’24, was recently selected for the Boston Theater Marathon (BTM), an award-winning, all-day marathon of 10-minute plays.

Inspired by the iconic Boston Marathon, the BTM is a theater endurance event designed to make connections between local playwrights and local theaters—seeding new collaborations and strengthening existing ones, and encouraging more companies to consider producing new plays by local writers!—and to introduce audiences to the breadth and depth of the Boston playwriting and theater scene. The yearly event provides a showcase—and a connecting point—for the entire theater community.

Each year, BTM receives hundreds of submissions from New England area playwrights and only 50 are selected for production. The selected plays are then put on by local theater companies. This year’s readers were Nathan Alan Davis, Tina Esper, Darren Evans, Hortense Gerardo, Maggie Kearnan, Greg Lam, K. Alexa Mavromatis, Cliff Odle, J.C. Pankratz, Isabelle Sanatdar Stevens, Megan Sandberg-Zakian, and Brandon Zang.

Makena’s play is being produced by the Newton Theatre Company, and will be shown during the 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. block of the festival on May 7, 2023.
