2021-22 Philanthropy Impact Report
Dear members of the CSW community,
During the 2021 - 2022 school year, we challenged each other to “Think Beyond” — to dream about the many ways we could tap into the extraordinary potential of CSW students, faculty, and campus to expand our local and global impact. For instance, through our PACE co-curriculum (Promoting Awareness and Community Engagement), we actively reached beyond our walls to build relationships in communities such as Waltham and Lawrence (in person and virtually). And for the first time since Spring 2019, CSW students and faculty traveled to Panama as part of a Mod Abroad, and to Hurricane Island off the coast of Maine for our Marine Biology class.
Of course, we were also literally “Thinking Beyond”, as we cautiously stepped outside the restrictions COVID had placed on us as a community. We moved back (admittedly in fits and starts) to a learning environment where we could be together again in classrooms and studios across campus. We brought back in-person events — Dance Concert, Rock/Pop, theater and music productions, sports activities, and more — that have always been vital to the CSW experience. Through those exciting yet nerve-wracking transitions, we were thoughtful, caring, and respectful. We are clearly stronger as a community because of what we have lived and learned together.
Like many other forward-thinking institutions, CSW has taken advantage of this moment in our history to envision how we could build upon our strengths and shore up our weaknesses. Through formal and informal discussions, we have begun to consider how to support and expand our community, further enhance our campus, and secure our future. We are deeply grateful to our entire community for your trust and support over the past year. Together, we managed to be in the moment for each other, living our mission in so many vital ways, while constantly thinking about what’s next for CSW. By “Thinking Beyond”, we have positioned CSW to move ahead with creativity and confidence.

Summary of Giving
- CSW raised a total of $1,159,285 with $837,393 towards the CSW Fund and $321,892 towards special funds and endowed gifts.§
- CSW awarded $3.57 million in financial aid and support.
- Class of 2022 families raised $130,830 toward CSW Library renovations. Their generosity will leave a lasting legacy that will benefit our students for years.
- The CSW community exceeded expectations for April’s Day of Giving! The school received 329 gifts totaling $185,872, unlocking the alumni, parent/guardian, and overall challenges!
- Three faculty members were awarded grants from the Alorie Parkhill Learning and Travel Fund for Teachers: Anjali Bhatia, History Department Chair; Jeryl Pilapil, Dance Teacher; and Anne Rearick, Visual Arts Teacher.
- Students had the opportunity to take their first trip abroad since the pandemic began. In the spring, students enrolled in Neotropics of Latin America traveled to Panama.
- The topic of this year’s Michael H. Feldman ’67 Social Justice Day was Decolonizing History and Society. Students spent the day listening to a series of presentations from experts in the field.
- The first phase of a multi-step campus renovation project began this summer! Along with technology upgrades and improvements to teaching spaces, projects included converting the Garden Building into a Nurse’s Office and Infirmary and renovating the Cheek, Kluchman, and George buildings.

Young people come to CSW to learn how to learn and then put what they learn into action—essential skills they carry into their futures as doers, makers, innovators, leaders, and exceptional humans who do meaningful work in the world.
