The PACE Advantage

PACE — Promoting Awareness and Community Engagement — is a four-year co-curriculum designed to ensure that all CSW students develop self-awareness, social consciousness, healthy living habits, life skills, and leadership that will serve them well into adulthood. Through the PACE program, we dedicate time during the mod and the year for experiential classes, events, and activities that prepare our students to meet the demands of an increasingly complex and diverse world.

Why PACE? Why Now?

CSW's PACE co-curriculum was developed in response to growing research in support of social-emotional learning and increased calls for a refreshed take on school curriculum. Here are a few of the many reasons we believe PACE offers the programming students need to achieve their highest potential in high school, college, and beyond.

◎ We understand that the pursuit of knowledge is intrinsically linked to social/emotional well-being and healthy lifestyle choices.

◎ Research has shown that students who maintain good health and engage in social-emotional learning exhibit increased or improved:
    • Time-management skills
    • Conflict resolution
    • Empathy
    • Impulse control
    • Social competence
    • Academic achievement

Students who maintain good health and engage in social-emotional learning have shown decreased levels of:
    • Anxiety
    • Stress
    • Insecurity
    • Restlessness

In failing to address issues of physical, emotional, and mental health as part of the educational experience, many schools are unknowingly preventing their students from reaching their full potential as scholars, professionals, and contributing members of society.

What if every student... ?

At CSW, we regularly consider the impact a progressive education can have on not only our students, but the world that they live in. In creating the PACE program, we asked ourselves, what if, by the time they graduate, every CSW student developed the following practices and skills? What kind of world would that yield? We think a pretty great one.

What if every student...

◎ Truly understood the meaning and value of empathy and compassion.

◎ Lived proudly in the present, understanding the disparities between the digital universe of their cell phone and everyday life.

◎ Felt confident and comfortable with person-to-person, face-to-face interaction, self-advocating with assuredness and poise.

◎ Developed a sincere desire to engage with their communities, building meaningful relationships and gladly lending a helping hand as needed.

◎ Made personal health a priority, knowing how and when to care for their bodies and their minds.

◎ Valued and regularly sought to perpetuate a more equitable and diverse world.
